First Things First

First Things First

We are always putting things in order of importance. It’s called prioritizing and without it, we would be in disarray. Nearly every day of our lives we’re making written or mental notes on what is most important to us. To parents, children and maintaining a safe home are probably at the top of the list. Getting married might be at the top of the list for single adults. Perhaps graduating from school takes priority over everything else in a teenager’s life.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. – Matthew 6:33

Unfortunately, many of us get so bogged down with the cares of the world, schedules, and lists of things to do, that we forget the single most important thing we should always do and that’s putting God first in all of our days. Everything we need and everything that affects us, God, our creator knows about it before we do.

There are so many things the Kingdom will have when it comes, and some of it we can experience today if we would put first things first. Here are some suggestions on putting the things of God first:

  • Seek Him. Doesn’t it make sense to seek the one who made us for our needs? See. He will help you prioritize the things in your life. I believe He will show us how to reduce stress by showing us what we need versus what we think we need.
  • Prayer. We seek God for guidance by talking to Him the first thing in the morning. I make it a habit to pray as soon as I get up. I find a place in my house and commune with my God. I’ve even noticed how hectic my day is when I don’t pray in the morning.
  • Pray several times a day. Remember you can pray while you work, drive, clean house and other times throughout the day.
  • Study. Don’t just read your bible. There is so much written in the scriptures that will give us the answer to all of our problems. So study it. Know it. Memorize the scriptures that have an effect on your life. Especially the ones that pointed you in the right direction.

If we seek the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, we can’t go wrong and will never come up short and left in confusion. So put first things first and Seek the Kingdom of God first.

Father in heaven. I pray for that wisdom will be given to everyone when it comes to setting priorities. I pray you’ll reveal yourself more through our diligent and relentless search of the things you want us to know. – In Jesus’ Holy Name, Amen.
