All of us want to experience the niceness this world offer. But you have to be careful and don’t let your own desires hinder you. Some of us want a handsome husband. Some of us want a beautiful wife. Some of us want the best cars, homes and lots of money. There’s nothing wrong with wanting these things, but we have to be careful of how bad we want them, and what we’re willing to do to get them.
But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. – James 1:14 (KJV)
Satan is watching our every move and just like a wolf, he is waiting for the opportunity to pounce on us and destroy us. He stalks us, checking out our weaknesses and willingness to stray away from the flock. When we crave sweeter and greener pastures so much that it causes us to stray away from our Shepherd, Jesus the Christ, Satan has us where he wants us and moves in for the kill.
Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. – James 1:15
I want you to think about a time when you wanted something or someone so bad that you were willing to lie, steal, scheme and dream for days until you got it. Then after you got what you wanted, you realised it wasn’t any good for you at all. Perhaps it was a mate that wound up being abusive. Perhaps it was a car that wound up sinking you deep in debt. Perhaps you were so deep in debt, you stole money to pay the bill. Perhaps you know someone who’s desire actually led them to their death.
Check your desires against God’s word. Make sure what you want is something or someone He would want you to have. If it’s something that will draw you deeper into sin, away from the Shepherd, please leave it alone because when it leads us to sin, the consequences outway the benefits and our wages are death.
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. – Romans 6:23
Father God, bless the reader of this post and give them the courage to step away from whatever has pulled or is pulling them away from the love and safety you want to give. – Amen
