The Dad You’re Called to Be

The Dad You’re Called to Be

Grandchildren are the crown of aged men, And the glory of children is their fathers [who live godly lives]. – Proverbs 17:6 (AMP)

Believe it or not, your kids really look up to you! When I was a little boy, my dad would come home from work and take a bath. He would come out wearing his pajamas and I was amazed at how tall he was. He used to pick me up and put me on his shoulders and give me rides through the small apartment we lived in. He would give me warnings and say; “Duck your head!” when we walked through a doorway.

I remember when he would tell me things, give wisdom on various subjects. Sometimes I listened and sometimes I didn’t. The information I didn’t listen to, is the parts of his advice I regret not listening to today.

My dad was a provider. He had his flaws, which caused friction between him and I. But when I became a father with children, I was able to use everything he taught me when I was a boy. He was my living example of how to be a loving and providing father to my children, who he loved very much.

Fellas! You’re called to be an example to your children. You’re called to love them, nurture them and teach them. Teaching them the ways of God can be the best teaching you could ever share with them. You’re called to be somebody your kids can look up to. Please let your sons and daughters see how a man should be. Be the dad you’re called to be.
